Arabs shoot to kill Israeli child in Samaria

By Jerusalem Newswire Editorial Staff
August 07, 2005

Palestinian Arab terrorists ambushed an Israeli family traveling near the Samarian town of Ramallah Sunday morning, shooting and critically wounding a 10-year-old Jewish boy in the head.

The child was evacuated by helicopter to Jerusalem's Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital where doctors managed to reduce his condition to ?very serious but stable? following emergency surgery.

His father was lightly wounded in the shooting, but continued driving despite his injuries until he reached a nearby IDF checkpoint, where the family was met by ambulances and soldiers.

The Council of Jewish Communities in Judea, Samaria and Gaza (Yesha) responded to the attack by slamming the government of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon for recently removing protective military roadblocks under pressure from Washington.

?The fact that the roadblocks were removed from this area allowed the terrorists to execute their plans,? a statement released by the council read. ?Apparently, in the eyes of the government, settler blood is cheap, and an acceptable price to pay for 'security experiments.'?

The army immediately launched a manhunt for the would-be killers, who reportedly escaped in the direction of Ramallah, an area under the full security control of PLO chief Mahmoud Abbas' forces.

Abbas continues to spurn the PLO's decade-old peace commitment to disarm those elements of Palestinian Arab society that see the murder of Israeli men, women and children as a religious obligation and political tool.
