Top bomb-maker taunts Israel

By Jerusalem Newswire Editorial Staff
August 28, 2005

A video of a shadowy figure claiming to be Israel's top wanted terrorist, Hamas' Mohammed Deif, was released to the media by the group Saturday.

His message to Israeli Jews: ?You are leaving Gaza humiliated,? now prepare to be driven from all your land.

?Today you are leaving hell. But we promise you that tomorrow all Palestine will be hell for you, Allah willing,? Deif said.

The man, regarded as a master bomb maker, swore that Hamas would not disarm and would ?continue the struggle against Israel until it is erased from the map.?

Like the rest of his colleagues, Deif credits ?Palestinian? terrorism with bringing about Israel's decision to unilaterally withdraw from Gaza and northern Samaria and evacuate all Jews living there.

He urged Mahmoud Abbas' Palestinian Authority to continue on the path of ?resistance.?

?We should keep the arms of resistance raised side by side with the political work and we warn against harming this weapon that liberated Gaza. Let it continue to be active and operational to liberate the rest of our homeland.?

In response to questions about the video, PA Interior Ministry spokesman Tawfiq Abu Khoussa told the Associated Press Hamas remains committed to the current ?ceasefire.?

?All Palestinian factions are committed to the truce, including Hamas, and we see nothing new in Hamas' position toward the truce,? said Abu Khoussa.

Israeli Foreign Ministry official Gideon Meir said as long as the PA permitted men like Deif to operate against Israel, there could be no progress in the peace process.

Deif's ?declaration proves again why the Palestinian Authority must fulfill its duty and fight the Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades,? he said.

Deif is believed responsible for the deaths of hundreds of Israeli Jews. He has survived three Israeli attempts on his life, and has become a legend among Palestinian Arabs devoted to the cause of annihilating the Jewish state.
