War on Terror

'Israel must go on the offensive'

By Ryan Jones
September 15, 2005

As Israelis Thursday debated a High Court decision regarding the legality and route of the ?West Bank? security fence, a group of leading academics warned that if Israel wanted to be free of Islamic terror it must take the fight to the ?Palestinians.?

?In order to fight terror, one must move to the offensive and not hide behind a fence,? stated Professors for a Strong Israel.

Earlier in the day, a panel of nine High Court justices ruled Israel was not obligated to abide by a 2004 decision by the International Court of Justice in The Hague labeling the security fence ?illegal.?

They did, however, order the government to re-route a portion of the fence protecting the Samarian Jewish community of Alfei Menashe in accordance with a petition filed by leftist Israelis and Palestinian Arabs.

The petition asserted that including Alfei Menashe inside the fence imposed undue hardships on ?Palestinians? living in the vicinity.

Arab Likud MK Ayoub Kara slammed the decision, saying the court ?appears more concerned about Palestinian property than it does about the safety of Israelis.?

Deputy Defense Minister Ze'ev Boim said the court's ?stupid? decision would mean tearing down parts of the already-built fence at a time the ?Palestinians? have threatened to renew their campaign of terrorist mass murder, putting many Israelis in ?life-threatening danger.?
