'Palestinians': If Israel guards border, hit them

By Ryan Jones

If Israel allows anything less than unfettered ?Palestinian? traffic between the Gaza Strip and Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem, the terror groups have their public's blessing to continue attacking Jews.

Last week, the Center for Opinion Polls and Survey Studies asked 1,360 Palestinian Arabs if they would back continued aggression against Israel from the Gaza Strip following Israel's withdrawal from the area.

Apparently mindful of Israeli threats of harsh retaliation, nearly 62 percent answered in the negative.

But when the question was rephrased and Israel's intention to vigilantly guard its border with Gaza thrown into the equation, some 59 percent of respondents said they would support ongoing attacks originating from the strip.

Until it becomes clear how fully Israel intends to surrender, over 53 percent of ?Palestinians? said the terror groups should not be disarmed. Fifty-eight percent attributed the Gaza pullout to terrorist efforts to mass murder Jews.

Responding to repeated Palestinian Authority demands for Israel to loosen its defenses around Gaza, Interior Minister Ophir Pines-Paz said Jerusalem intends to treat its border with the volatile coastal strip as it does those with Lebanon, Egypt and Jordan.

To that end, Pines-Paz Wednesday officially declared Israel's frontier with Gaza an international border, and said anyone traveling to or from the strip would need a passport.

Meanwhile, Israeli military sources told Middle East Newsline this week that the IDF General Staff is anticipating, and preparing to respond to, the use of advanced weaponry by Gaza-based terrorists.

Along with thousands of rifles, numerous medium range surface-to-surface, anti-aircraft and anti-tank missiles are believed to have been smuggled into Gaza last week as Egyptian and PA forces allowed an estimated 100,000 people to pour over the Gaza-Sinai border without restriction.

Such weapons are deemed by the army to be ?balance breaking,? as they will allow the terrorists to strike strategic Israeli targets miles away from Gaza, and far more effectively defend the strip against retaliatory incursions.
