Abbas: There will be no peace

By Jerusalem Newswire Editorial Staff

PLO chief Mahmoud Abbas drove yet another ?Palestinian? nail into the coffin of the land-for-peace process Saturday, insisting there will be no final agreement with Israel until Arab demands are met in full.

Speaking at the ?Freedom and Liberty? festival in Ramallah, Abbas reiterated that the wresting of Gaza from Israel's control was only the first step, and that all Judea and Samaria, including eastern Jerusalem, would follow soon.

Until Israel surrendered those areas and the PLO flag was raised over Jerusalem, there could be no peace, he said.

Abbas also insisted the ?Palestinians? would not relinquish their ?right? to flood Israel with millions of so-called refugees.

Israel rejects a ?right of return? for the millions of Arabs referred to as ?Palestinian refugees,? which poses an existential demographic threat to the Jewish state.

Jerusalem also says it intends to retain control over major Jewish settlement blocs in Judea and Samaria, the cradle of Jewish civilization, under any final peace accord.

Abbas ended his Saturday tirade by saying the upcoming parliamentary elections would be held on time, despite Israel's threat to hinder the poll over the participation of Hamas.
