Palestinian Arabs

Culture of terror fostered in Gaza

By Ryan Jones

?Palestinian? terrorist organizations are carefully nurturing a culture of dependence, violence and death in the Gaza Strip to ensure that generations to come continue to seek ?martyrdom? in the struggle against Israel.

But it doesn't have to be that way.

IDF Intelligence Chief Maj.-Gen. Aharon Ze'evi maintains that PLO chief Mahmoud Abbas has the capability to put down the terror groups and construct a healthy, prosperous society, if he so chooses.

Speaking to Israel's Cabinet Sunday morning, Ze'evi said the Palestinian Arabs are ?are constantly trying to carry out attacks against Israeli targets, including kidnapping Israeli civilians.?

In addition to killing Jews, the attacks are meant to elicit a strong Israeli response, thereby further isolating Gaza and increasing the suffering of its residents, the general stated.

The goal is to cause families and ?children in Gaza to starve and fight,? Ze'evi said, causing them to turn for help and assistance to Hamas and Islamic Jihad, which are seen by the Arabs to be above bureaucratic corruption.

In turn, those groups gain a fertile breeding ground for future gunmen and ?suicide? bombers.

Hamas in particular has long been in the business of providing social assistance throughout Gaza for just this reason. Its efforts in this area are largely funded by ?charities? set up in the United States and Europe.

This vicious pattern, which left unattended will perpetuate the bloodshed indefinitely, can be stopped.

Abbas ?can become stronger? and change the situation on the ground ?if he regains his composure,? Ze'evi assessed.

But since taking control of the Palestinian Authority after his mentor Yasser Arafat's death nearly a year ago, Abbas has rejected the very idea of disarming his terrorist ?brothers? and dismantling their organizations.

Nor do Gazan or any other ?Palestinian? children need to starve.

Recent reports have shown the Palestinian Arabs receive more foreign financial aid per capita than any people group on the planet. Yet lax or non-existent accountability measures have resulted in the bulk of those funds disappearing over the past 12 years.
