Arabs complain: Israel making terror difficult

By Ryan Jones
October 11, 2005

A group claiming to represent Israel's Arab population has complained to the United Nations that Jerusalem is violating human rights by making it difficult for them to engage in terrorist activities.

The Nazareth-based Arab Association for Human Rights hosted a meeting Monday between itself and various sister organizations and Hina Jilani, a special representative of UN Secretary General Kofi Annan to such groups.

The Arabs told the UN official their rights were being trampled by Israeli efforts to prevent them from transferring finances to Muslim charities known to be fund raising mechanisms for Hamas and other terrorist organizations.

They also complained that Israel's Prison Services sometimes prevent lawyers from meeting with captured ?Palestinian? and Israeli Arab terrorists considered to still be national security threats.

The Israeli groups committed to continue filing complaints regarding these ?unfair? limits with the UN, while Jilani will present a full report on the situation to Annan following her visit to the region.

The Arabs hope that by internationalizing the issue, Israel will be forced to allow them greater freedom to pursue what is in the United States and other Western countries considered illegal terrorist activity.
