PA set to hoodwink Bush on disarmament

By Ryan Jones
October 19, 2005

When PLO chief Mahmoud Abbas meets US President George W. Bush Thursday, he will tell the American of his plans to disarm ?Palestinian? terrorists in accordance with signed agreements, despite the fact he has no intention of doing so.

Earlier this week, sources close to Abbas said he would brief Bush on plans to confiscate weapons currently in the hands of Hamas and other terror group, a long unfulfilled stipulation of the Oslo Accords and Road Map.

The move is expected to allay growing American impatience with PA noncompliance, exasperated Sunday with the terrorist murder of three young Israelis in Judea.

But PA National Security Advisor Jibril Rajoub told The Jerusalem Post Tuesday no such plans would ever be implemented.

?We haven't called for disarming anyone,? Rajoub said. ?There is no decision to collect weapons and we haven't taken any steps in this direction.?

Traditionally, ?Palestinian? promises have sufficed to shift the focus of US pressure back to Israel, despite the fact they are never honored.
