Peace Process

Eiland gets it ? ?Palestinians? don?t want peace

Israeli National Security Advisor Giora Eiland at the weekend made a breakthrough in his understanding of the Israeli-Arab conflict – the Palestinian Arabs don’t want an independent state as part of any peace settlement with Israel.

Rather, the Yasser Arafat-led foes of the Jewish state want all of those lands the bible refers to as Israel’s God-given patrimony.

"[The] Palestinians have rejected the creation of a Palestinian state three times in recent history... Maybe they're not interested in an end to the conflict,” said the man responsible for drafting Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s “disengagement” plan.

On Saturday, US President George W. Bush urged “Palestinian” Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia to “show leadership against [the] terrorists” if he wants to see the birth of a sovereign Palestinian state anytime soon.

But Eiland told his hosts in Washington that one of the primary policies of Arafat and his Palestinian Authority was to maintain Islamic terrorism against the Jews.

Waiting for Israel to collapse

IDF reserve general Giora Eiland visited Washington Friday in his capacity as national security advisor to report to US officials on the status of Sharon’s disengagement plan, following its crushing defeat in last week’s Likud referendum.

Eiland was the plan’s chief author.

Israel “wants to implement the plan, but I can't see the political process that will enable it,” Ynet quoted Eiland as telling his hosts.

He said Israel supports the creation of a Palestinian state, but is unsure if the “Palestinians” themselves do.

"[The] Palestinians have rejected the creation of a Palestinian state three times in recent history, the most recent case in Camp David in 2000. Maybe they're not interested in an end to the conflict. Maybe they think that by 2007 Israel will collapse,” he said.

PLO “foreign minister” Farouk Kaddoumi last month admitted that his organization’s charter, which calls for the complete eradication of the Jewish state, has not been changed.

PA policy

On Saturday, Bush said the 2005 Road Map deadline for birthing a sovereign Palestinian state was now “unrealistic,” but indicated Qureia could speed up the process by taking charge and cracking down on anti-Jewish Islamic terror.

Eiland, however, said the official policies of Qureia’s boss, Arafat, and his PA included perpetuating the terrorist offensive against Israel, while engaging in “sweet talk” for international consumption.
