Hamas shows extent of its 'moderation'

New charter reportedly in the works, but it still calls for Israel's demise

The international community is about to get what it is asking for ? a moderation of Hamas' current positions, though the changes will not make Israel and its true allies very happy.

The Jerusalem Post has learned that the terrorists will mark their rise to power by presenting a new charter, minus the many anti-Semitic diatribes present in the current charter, but which continues to call for the elimination of the Jewish state as a sovereign entity.

The document also allows for a long-term ceasefire with the State of Israel until such time as the Arabs are strong and numerous enough to end its existence, said Dr. Azzam Tamimi of the Institute of Islamic Political Thought in London, who has been advising Hamas on the content of the new charter.

Hamas is looking to highlight that it does not hate Jews, and is more than willing to let them once again enjoy life as second-class citizens, or dhimmi, under Muslim rule, indicated Tamimi.

But the group cannot, in accordance with its faith in the Koran, accept Jewish sovereignty over lands that were once under the thumb of Islam.
