Banks in Israel have reportedly begun to refuse house mortgages to Jews wishing to take up residence in Judea and Samaria, citing Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's intention to uproot most Jewish communities in those areas.
While the Finance Ministry has denied any responsibility in the banks' decisions, one frustrated settler said the entire episode smelled of a government-backed effort to "dry out [Jewish] settlement in Judea and Samaria."
