Washington has a worrying habit of not viewing Fatah members as terrorists simply because they belong to the lead faction of the PLO.
It demonstrated this again Tuesday when US officials petitioned Israel to release the just-captured head of Fatah's Force 17 "presidential" guard, Mahmoud Damra.
PLO chief Mahmoud Abbas insists Damra is essential to his security, but the man has also been behind numerous murderous attacks on Israeli Jews in recent years.
The US pastime of bolstering Abbas has led to many Israeli deaths as arms transfers to his Fatah forces invariably end up in the hands of Fatah-affiliated Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigade terrorists.
Similar to the Damra case, Washington has been urging Israel for years to release blood-soaked Fatah terror boss Marwan Barghouti because of his widespread popularity and position as a Palestinian Authority lawmaker.
