Four Egyptian police officers were arrested along with five "Palestinians" on Friday on charges of conspiring to smuggle ammunition and hand grenades into the Gaza Strip.
Israel says arms smuggling into Gaza has increased considerably since it quit the area last year and handed control of the border over to Egytp and the Palestinian Authority.
Israeli officials have accused Egypt of doing very little to combat the smuggling.
Friday's arrest, which was leaked to the press by unnamed sources, came just days after the latest accusation of Egyptian negligence.
