The escalating "Palestinian" rocket threat against southern Israel's Sderot and surrounding communities is preventing a majority of local children from attending school.
Teachers and principles told visiting Education Minister Yuli Tamir on Monday that barely 50 percent of students are bothering to show up for class in schools that are still largely unfortified against rocket attacks.
When an attack does occur, parents quickly arrive to pull the rest of the students out of class.
Even for those who do "tought it out," studies are often moved to cramped hallways to avoid exposure to vulnerable outer walls and windows.
Sderot authorities are reportedly considering evacuating the school children to other towns around the country to allow them to complete their studies in peace.
