Israeli forces along the country's northern border were placed on high alert Sunday as Lebanon inched closer to civil war.
Nearly one million protestors loyal to Hizb'allah and other pro-Syrian elements in Lebanon descended on Beirut over the weekend to demand a change of government.
Israeli leaders expressed concern that a takeover by a pro-Syrian, pro-Iranian regime would lead to another war with the Jewish state by next summer at the latest.
However, they also cautioned that any Israeli interference at this point would only deepen the crisis.
