Syria is preparing its army for a war with Israel, according to the chief of the research department of the IDF's Military Intelligence.
According to Ha'aretz, Brigadier General Yossi Baidatz said Sunday Syrian strongman Bashar el-Assad has ordered an increase in the production of long-range surface-to-surface missiles, and has instructed his army to deploy its anti-tank missiles closer to the border with Israel on the Golan Heights.
This latest evaluation supports a slew of IDF assessments that Israel will have to fight at least one, and possibly two wars in 2007.
It is likely to add impetus to the renewed international effort to impose a "peace" agreement on Israel.
