Leftist Israeli lawmaker approves of Baker plan

A top contender for the leadership of Israel's Labor Party said Monday he believed the recommendations of the Iraq Study Group - which Israelis call "the Baker report" - could serve Israel's interests.

The report calls for the US to appease axis-of-evil states Iran and Syria in order to enable America to get out of Iraq "with honor."

Its recommendations, said Ophir Paz-Pines, fitted nicely into Labor's liberal worldview - a worldview that gave birth to the Oslo Accords and paved the way for the introduction of the "Road Map" and, ultimately, US President George W. Bush's "Two State Solution."

The premise of all these appeasement plans is that the Arab-Israeli conflict can be resolved by giving/taking away large chunks of the Jewish National Home.

More than a decade-and-a-half of unprecedented violence may have proven the bankruptcy of this land-for-peace approach, but center-left and left-wing Israelis still cling to the hope or belief that appeasing Islam will bring peace to the Middle East, and to the world.
