Defense Minister Amir Peretz is believed to be fearful of his own job now that IDF Chief of Staff Dan Halutz has resigned.
"Close associates" of the minister tried to dismiss concerns of a domino, or snowball effect after Halutz tended his going-ome letter early Wednesday.
"Close associates" [journalese for the minister himself - Ed.] also tried to distance Peretz from Halutz, saying "there is no link between the army chief's responsibility and that of the defense minister."
A sense expressed in Israel, however, is that Peretz and even Prime Minister Ehud Olmert will leave their posts in disgrace before the dust finally settles.
