Israeli police were mystified Tuesday at the behavior of a would-be "suicide" bomber who was all set to blow himself up at Tel Aviv's central bus station, but didn't.

Instead the Arab stashed his explosives pouch in an apartment in Bat Yam, south of the target area, and spent the day wandering around.

As he did so, Israeli intelligence homed in on the fact that a large attack was imminent, and security forces set up road blocks and carried out spot checks in the Tel Aviv region.

The terrorist, together with the man charged with driving him into the city and a number of other suspect were tracked down and arrested.

It is not unusual for terrorist attacks against Israeli Jews to be thwarted, though the vast majority of such cases go unreported, and thus "do not happen."
