Jews barred from renting apartments in Nice, France

A French newspaper revealed at the weekend that some 1,000 apartment buildings in the Mediterranean city of Nice continue to maintain a decades-old municipal regulation barring Jews from becoming tenants.

The regulation was put in place during World War II, when parts of France were cooperating and collaborating with their Nazi occupiers.

French Jewish leaders expressed outrage over the discovery, and demanded the regulations be revised at once.

Israel leaders have for years been urging European Jews, especially those residing in France, to immigrate to the Jewish state amid rising anti-Semitic trends in Europe.
