The "Palestinian" terror group Islamic Jihad claimed this week that its forces in the Gaza Strip have developed a new rocket with increased range and payload.
A spokesman for the group said the new rocket can travel up to 15 miles.
What that means in practical terms, if it is true, is that terrorists can now fire the rockets from anywhere in Gaza and still hit Israeli communities, nullifying IDF efforts to keep "Palestinian" rocket crews away from the security fence.
It also means that crews that do manage to get near the security fence will be able to hit hundreds of thousands more Israelis than they previously could.
Israeli defense officials have been warning for months that unless a major IDF offensive is launched in Gaza, the area will continue to be transformed into a heavily-armed terrorist haven that threatens the very stability and existence of the Jewish state.
