From Gaza - terrorist infiltrations begin

More than 5000 Kassam rockets have been fired at Israeli targets from the Gaza Strip which Israel abandoned to the PLO two years ago, the Sharon government brutally throwing thousands of Jews out of their homes.

At the weekend, however, the terror assault from the Strip took an ominous turn when two heavily-armed Arabs dressed as Israeli soldiers used sophisticated climbing equipment to get over the security fence and attack the Erez Crossing into northern Gaza.

Both men, who were reportedly out to kill soldiers and civilians in Israeli residential areas, were neutralized in a close range gun battle with Golani Brigade troops.

One soldier was lightly wounded in the fight.

Ynetnews quoted army spokesman Major Tal Lev-Ram as saying there was "an intention to carry out a large attack in Israeli territory," and that the terrorists were armed "head to toe" with grenades and automatic weapons.

Saturday's infiltration was one of the few times terrorists have managed to slip by the heavily fortified fence around Gaza.

It won't be the last.

According to a report in The Jerusalem Post Sunday, senior Israeli army officers warned after the infiltration that the "Palestinians" have learned the IDF's defense systems and will try again.

"It's obvious to us that this is the reality, and the trend is apparently that it's going to continue."
