According to a report in the Israeli daily Ha'aretz Tuesday, Egypt earlier this month allowed some 85 Hamas terrorists to enter the Gaza Strip from Sinai. In the group were experts in manufacturing bombs, rockets and mortars, who had undergone extensive training in Iran and Lebanon.
Egypt is said to have let them enter Gaza in exchange for the handing over by Hamas of an Al-Qaeda terrorist arrested in the strip.
The following are some pertinent facts about Egyptian-Israel relations:
Egypt has a peace treaty with Israel.
Egypt discourages or actively prevents its citizens from visiting Israel.
Egypt's official media frequently demonizes Israel.
Egypt whole-heartedly supports the creation of Palestine on Jewish land.
Egypt permits Hamas terrorists, including wanted murderers and bomb makers to enter the Gaza Strip.
Egypt will not stop the steady smuggling of weapons into Gaza.
Egypt will be a major player at the Annapolis "peace" conference next month.
