World leaders applaud Sharon

World leaders, barely able to believe that he is actually doing it, continue to pour praise on Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon for moving against his own people in the Gaza Strip and northern Samaria.

At the weekend, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak commended Sharon, his long-time arch-enemy, calling him ?a man of his word? and asserting his belief that the Israeli leader is ?the only one who can bring peace.?

The Egyptian dictator?s words must be seen against the background of his country?s ongoing support for the creation of a Palestinian state on the ancient Jewish homeland.

Among others who have gathered round Israel?s leader in a show of support are US President George W. Bush, British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and French Foreign Minister Douste-Blazy.

As they have watched Sharon carry out the forced removal of thousands of Jews over the past days, these leaders have heaped praise on the heavyweight prime minister, calling him ?bold,? ?creative,? ?courageous? and ?determined.?

Ignoring that aspect of the ?disengagement? plan that rewards terrorism and thereby strengthens those inflicting violence on Israel, many of the leaders expressed the hope that the expulsions of Jew will strengthen the Jewish state.

One thing they all have in common? Full-blown support for the creation of a Palestinian state despite the overwhelming evidence to show that, once it exists, such a state will devote its resources to the destruction of what will be left of Israel.

Meanwhile, the United Nations, prolific producer of anti-Israel resolutions and condemnations, has announced that it will host Sharon, who will address a session of the General Assembly next month.

According to Ha?aretz, the Israeli will use the opportunity to garner more international support for his ?disengagement? plan.
